Synthetic versus natural oils

I can still remember when I discovered Vaseline as a skin care product.
Especially for the lips.

Vaseline stays on the skin for a very long time, giving you the feeling that your skin is beautifully moisturized.

Or so I thought.

But now I know better…

Not only is Vaseline made from residues of mineral oil production (which makes it super cheap), it is also very interesting in terms of allergenic substances.
It contains almost none of them.

That’s why petroleum jelly is found in so many skincare products.

For me, however, petroleum jelly became a “no-go” when I realized that it is basically just a solid paraffin derivative. And it simply remains on the skin. This prevents moisture from escaping from the skin, which is why it feels nice and moisturized.

That’s all well and good, but should the skin really be sealed off—is that good for the skin flora and its “breathing”?

I don’t think so.

And now plant oils come into play.

…”Plant oils are very similar to our skin’s natural oils and can therefore be absorbed by the skin.
They penetrate deep into the skin and are incorporated into the metabolic process.
They strengthen the immune system of the epidermis and activate its functions from within, so that constant re-oiling is not necessary.” **

Somehow, I find plant oils more appealing than petroleum jelly…

I have formulated a few skin care products that are guaranteed to contain 0.0% synthetic substances: e.g., PolarLicht, DornRöschen Erwacht, or my favorite for facial care: Lotion Koji.

There are a few more to choose from…

All products can be found in the “care” category in my shop.
