Description
What’s the origin of certain words, how have they evolved and found their way into our language ? Or in which cultural and historical context have they changed or disapeared ?
The word “mischpoke” in my mind evokes scenes in 19 century “städtle” in todays Ukraine or Russia. Not so long ago I read a really touching book which took place in such a small town telling about the twists and turns of different figures within this tighly knit comunity.
The word “mischpoke” has its roots in hebrew and means “family” or “clan”. Then it made its lingual and cultural way over medieval German, to Jiddish and then to German of our days.
This word has made a long journey and therefore entails a lot of history. Sadly some very crestfallen periods.
The story behind the DuschMödeli “Mischpoke” is rather short in comparison. I was looking for a scent which would come close to roses. Natural essential rose oil costs a mint (at the moment approx. 14’000 CHF per liter…for one bar of “Mischpoke” that would mean 5.4 grams or 75.- CHF). Completely out of the question of course – it would be pure folly.
With this in mind I tried to find out which scent would meet a rose the closest – without even touching rose oil. And these are the oils I came up with:
marjory: ahaaa. Mmmmmm. Yyyyeeess. I wouldn’t have hinted on “rose”… but… could be.
litsea: ah. One of my favorites. Awsome. But. Rose ?!?! Perhaps a tiny, weeny bit ?!?!?
lavender: yes. Could be. Similar. Also a flower. Close. But still too different. Rose ?!?! I don’t know.
amyris: always good.
palmarosa: aha. Yep. Always coming back to palmarosa. Actually has nothing to do with roses – but somehow still does. The perfume industry also uses palmarosa in rose scents – when they want to avoid the rose scent.
Sniffing “Mischpoke” you could smell a wild heath rose – full in bloom.
Very subtle.
Very inconspicous.
Flowery.
Slightly sweet. With a earthy undernote.
The recipe for this DuschMödeli is explicitly made for the whole family.
For all of the mischpoke.
Adults. Grandads. Kiddies. Moms and Dads. Aunties and Uncles.
This showering not only looks nice (pink and white) but contains looooooots of shea butter. In addition to the extremely nourishing wheat germ oil.
It’s scent is unobtrusive.
And the essential oils don’t posses any allergic effect.
